I like the way you structured your mind map. Thanks for making your mind map so easy to comprehend!Did you use MindMeister to create it? I noticed that you had more dynamic technologies listed than static ones, which offers proof that we are moving to the dynamic end of the continuum. Do you think that static technologies will eventually be phased out?
I too like Neena's mind map and would love to know which tools she used. In response to Monica's question in terms of the progression towards more dynamic technologies, I feel that we will not see the static ones cease, simply improved upon. What do you think Neena?
The question about phasing out static technologies is interesting. Do you think the shift towards more synamic technologies is specific to the type of people in this class? I think people pursuing study in Educ Tech are more likely to look for dynamic ways to teach. I have many colleagues who still want student to purchase paper copies of the NY Times, do everything via paper & pencil, etc. The book we use in our freshman prep course now has an e-version -- and some people want to prevent the bookstore from offering that option to the students. My guess is, if I asked them to do this assignment, it would look very different.
I think email is changing. Have you used Google's wave? I was part of the beta test group and love the interactivity. It's kind of like facebook, googledocs, and fliker all in one. Has anyone used it? The problem is that you can only interact with other wave accounts, there's not wave to email compatibility. wave.google.com
Debbie, if I recall there's research that supports a connection between a student writing in their books and high grades. What do you think about this article? http://ereads.com/2010/05/students-give-e-textbooks-failing-grade.html
Hi Monica, Sondra, Debbie, and Jodie, Monica and Sondra, I used MindApp "premium" on a free trial basis. It isn't free so I will only get to use it that one time. Glad you all liked the map. If I could afford it, I would buy the premium package =) It has lots of bells and whistles. I agree with Sondra that static technologies will be greatly improved more than I think they will become obsolete. Debbie we all have colleagues who still want to use a chalk board and erasers. You have a valid point about us ed techies. Jodie, I have not used Google's wave, but you have my curiosity up about it. Hopefully, they will soon fix the problem with interacting with email accounts. They would be wise to do so or I would expect the "wave" will be short-lived. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I will try to check it out soon. Neena
